Ramblings

Eva is going to Great America today with her cousin Cassey for Cassey's birthday. And they're going to see Jesse McCartney. And she'll be sleeping over. And going to Chuck E Cheese for Cassey's birthday on Friday. But I can't help feeling a little sad. My baby is growing up, doing big girl things - her first time at Great America, and without her parents. Her first concert and without her parents. What a big girl she's becoming!! And yet I want to hold her on my lap and never let her go. But let her go I must, even though it will be difficult at times for her. It's not easy being a kid with Aspergers, even if it is a "mild" form. And why do some people just not get that it's ok that she takes medicine, it's what gets her through the day as "normal" as possible. Even Eva, who's 6, understands the pills help her. And I wish she didn't have to go through that. I wish she was "normal"/"average", but I guess it's the quirks that make her unique. Be safe little one. I'll be holding my breath until you return home.

It's only just begun...

One of the comments to the post about Eva's reading level has gotten me to thinking. The comment was that Eva now reads better than some of her high schoolers and I remembered hearing that most of the people in low paying jobs have reading and math skills of a third grader. So if I want my daughter to be successful, I have a lot of work yet to do. I honestly believe that my daughter is a success because I have taken the time to work with her, to help her, to encourage her to be the best she can be. So Lord, please keep me safe and healthy, I'm not finished with my kids yet!

Eva Rocks!

{fb} Ok, I have to sing the praises of my daughter Eva - she ROCKS!! She's in a reading fluency program for the summer. They tested her to see what level she's at (so we can find the appropriate books) and she's at a 3rd grade level!!! Whoo hooo!! Not bad for a soon to be 1st grader!! I'm so proud of her! (now we just need to work on math, lol)

4th of July

Waiting for the fireworks down by the lake, in front of the museum. Not a lot of mosquitos because it was too cold!! We had sweatshirts and blankets and were still cold!! Will it ever be summer in WI?

aaaah, to be six again

So Eva's school is having Spirit week this week. Like Monday was crazy hat day, Tuesday was your favorite sport team, etc. Well today was mismatch day. I was really having a hard time with this - everything matched in her dresser - then I found it! I took out a light purple shirt with mini polka-dots in mulit colors and a pair of pants with shades of pink and red hearts all over them. Pulled out two purple Hello Kitty socks that didn't match (one had just one Hello Kitty and the other one had Hello Kitty all overthem) and said to Eva, "There we go, you're all set for mismatch day" and she replys, "You're not suppose to wear them together?"

My kids?

We went out to eat for my birthday and it was pretty uneventful. We got up and went to pay for our dinner when this guy walks over to me and says, "I just wanted to comment on how well behaved your kids were and wanted to tell you 'Good job'" Wow! That really made me feel good as there are days when I think I'm losing the "war"!!

They're too quite!!

I'm in the kitchen, doing breakfast dishes by hand bc our dishwasher is broken, AGAIN!! Then I realize that it is REALLY quiet in the living room, like too quiet. So I tiptoe into the living room and there they are. Joey looks up at me and says, "We're sleeping mama!" lol, ok, here's kids who fight me tooth and nail to take a nap, doing it on their own! What's next? Or maybe I shouldn't ask that!

It can be done!

You CAN fit three boosters seats in the backseat of a Cavalier! Unfortunately, I had to do this because the truck was in an accident this morning. And of course it had to be the day when I had a million errands to run. So here we are, getting ready to take Daddy to work so I could use the car.

Saturday nite, we had some of the relatives over for cake and coffee. I LOVE the cake that Oliver's did! I told them to put a kitty of some sort on top and this is what they came up with - isn't it AWESOME!!
And here's Eva holding up a dress Grandma gave her. It has a matching doll dress too!

Eva's Birthday Party at the Y

Here's Eva with her cake. I was in such a hurry coming in from Winter Weekend, that I forgot the candles!! (but I remembered the ice cream!!) Her birthday party here was a blast and I would recommend it to EVERYONE!!

Winter Weekend (Feis (fesh) Prep)

In the morning, we went to irish dancing's Winter Weekend (Feis Prep) at the Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva, WI. They rotated to different rooms to work on different skills, like stage prescence or stretching/warming up.
