How Brown Kitty Became "Real"

Brown Kitty came into our lives via a McDonald's Happy Meal in May of '05. If I could have forseen how important this kitty would become, I would have bought several more!! He fit very nicely in Eva's hand and when I asked her what his name was, she looked at me and said, "Brown Kitty". She carried him EVERYWHERE, which became a problem because he's so small, he's hard to find! Compounding the problem is that my daughter is an airhead and when you would ask her when she last had him, she'd look up at you with big sad eyes and say, "I don't know". grrrrr Because of that, we have done our fair share of searching for this little guy. Let's see, he's been found buried in the sandbox, buried in the flowerbed, buried in the bedsheets, with the baked beans at the grocery store, with the cat food in the grocery store (of course! :)) , next to the fish at the pet store, at the babysitters house, etc. etc. One day, Brown Kitty could not be found. We looked and looked for him, but to no avail. Poor Eva was crying her eyes out night after night, so after 2 days of this, I went onto Ebay and found another Brown Kitty and as a bonus, there were 2 of them in this package of Micky D toys! So when I FINALLY got it, I opened it up and put one of the kitties on her bed. When she went to bed that night, she said, "Oh look! It's Brown Kitties cousin coming for a visit". Gerald said we should have buried it in the sandbox first, then the flowerbed next, then walk around with it in our dirty, sticky hands for 3 or 4 days, THEN given it to her. He said the new one was just tooooo clean, and he was right! The next day, I said to Gerald that the only place we hadn't looked was in the couch. So we took the cushions off and felt around and found out that there was a hole in there and besides Brown Kitty, we also found the phone and the vcr remote (to the vcr that we threw out!) that we had lost at the other house! yup, that's right, the couch moved to the new house and kept all it's "treasures" lol. So, Eva was overjoyed that Brown Kitty was found. Sometime later, we went out to eat and during dinner, it started to pour, so Gerald brought the car to the door so Eva & I wouldn't get wet. About half way home, Eva asks the question that sends Gerald & I into a panic almost immediatly -"Where's Brown Kitty?" I said that she was holding it when we left the restaurant, so where was it? I did a quick search of her, and he wasn't there! So Gerald turned around and 20 min's later, we were back at the restaurant and as we were pulling into the parking lot, we could see a lump in the middle of the parking lot right were our car was when we got in! So I ran out and got Brown Kitty, who by this time was soaking wet. Eva wanted Brown Kitty really badly, so I gave him to her and she held on tight all the way home and into bed. When she was finally asleep, I put him in a lingerie bag and washed and dried him. So the new rule in the house was that Brown Kitty could no longer leave the house, he was waaaaaay to important! So now he disappears amongst the toys now and again, but show's up when Eva's upset and needs a lovey. So two years later, he's still on her bed (ususally), along with Orange Kitty and Susie Kitty. Orange Kitty was with her when she had to have her tonsils and adnoids removed and she still wears her "collar" from the hospital. She has to have tubes put back into her ears, so Susie Kitty is going this time. And even though Brown Kitty doesn't get to leave the house anymore, he enjoys the tales from Orange Kitty and Susie Kitty.
